Guns & roses

Guns & roses

So Gauche Alchemy's the latest sponsor over at the These Are a Few of my Favorite Things challenge site and I decided to play along. Fave band? Soooo hard to choose...my taste in music is eclectic though I don't enjoy techno and totally don't get trance....Anyway I had to choose one for the challenge so I did a tongue-in-cheek piece featuring my oldest nephew S, er....posing with his toy guns & added paper roses as embellishments... Guns & Roses...haha...so corny right?

Okay, so I totally made my nephew pose for this. *LOL*

Yes, another piece done on 6 X 12 acrylic...inked the edges with Stazon in Fuchsia Pink..some paper scraps from Sassafras...misted the music paper from the Wholey Sheet Mixed Media Kit and used bits from the various Mixed Media Color Kits.

Oh well, Guns N' Roses Sweet Child O' Mine is still my fave song to sing to when driving...particularly when I'm feeling sleepy...so glad I have an amplifier in the car!!!!;) Er...when I'm by myself of course! :)

Home sweet home...for pens & pencils

Home sweet home...for pens & pencils

Just wanted to share what I made last month for Gauche Alchemy's Theme Day using Ouchless Cardboard (aka corrugated paper!) Home sweet home...for pens & pencils. Brown paint for the base then beige paint (dry brush technique) and browns inks and embellishments from the It's all gravy, baby! Brown Mixed Media Color kit.

Home sweet home...for pens & pencils closeup1

I made this pen holder for myself actually. But my oldest nephew S, saw it and asked if he could have it...

Home sweet home...for pens & pencils closeup2

And this came about because another nephew, O, decided that he wanted one too! This one's actually a wooden birdhouse..Oh well, they both ended up happy and I still don't have a pen holder..Anyone want to make me one? *LOL*

Baby girl...on acrylic

Baby girl on acrylic

I made this tall card/hanging/display on clear acrylic...a gift for someone who has a baby girl perhaps? I went really saccharin sweet with mostly pink...a little white and silver.[It's been really hard to photograph projects of late with the gloomy weather.] Edges were inked with Stazon in Fuchsia Pink. I left the center portion empty..I might add a photo or a quote when there's someone to give to! ;)

baby girl on acrylic closeup1

Love the pink textured and glittery paper that my friend Spardha sent me...see the silver glitter bits? So pretty! :) Some glitter chipboard on white paper doiley, a little tulle (I stitched it to the ribbon and button and secured with a glue dot), some paper roses, the pink plastic star is a paper clip (from the stationery store) and the butterflies are from an American Crafts patterned paper.

I added some lace trim at the base...did a little pleating and secured with cute brads...(I used my Cropadile to punch small holes...if it's paper, I usually just use my trusty stapler)...:)

What do you think?

SGF

SGF

I was at the Singapore Garden Festival about 10 days ago. This biennial event showcases award-winning gardens from all over the world and it really is a feast for the eyes if you enjoy gardens like I do....which explains why I took over 400 photos of plants that day...*LOL*.

This layout was totally inspired from the show...mostly American Crafts stuff [ in case you were wondering...I store my supplies by brand and tend to work on a brand till I'm blue in the face before moving on..;)...I layered the vellum (with the coloured blocks) over the floral patterned paper...it has a nice dreamy effect... The paper flowers were cut from that same piece of patterned paper and covered up by the square block..;)...which opens up to some hidden journaling...(notes to my future self! ;) and a disc with all the photos from the show.

Party time

Party time

Hello friends! How about a little "party time" to start the week? Dreary wet weather begone!

Just a simple card to share today!:) I misted the background and coloured a Some Odd Girl digital stamp with copics. I used my trusty MS edge punch and added a bright yellow ribbon. The sentiment is from SRM stickers! :)

Inspired by the sketch at CAS and the summer theme at CAS-tastic.

*Edited*  This card made Top 5 at CAS-tastic! :)

Check out this little ray of sunshine, my friend Rinne's little boy Matthew! :) He just turned one ....spiffy at his birthday party...:) This layout was inspired by the latest challenge over at Scrapping The Music - Soak up the sun by Sheryl Crowe!

Some misting (yellow & blue), Bo Bunny patterned papers, American Crafts foam letter stickers (I added some distress stickles for that glass glitter sparkle), faux stitching and SRM word stickers.

Tweet nest

Tweet nest

Yeah. Corny I know. Tweet nest. That's what you get when you are trying to use your remaining alphas creatively...*LOL*.. So...do you like my tweet nest? ;) Dreamy? It really does look sweet and very sparkly...just super hard to photograph (gloomy weather not helping either!)
The base is clear acrylic...edges inked with pink Stazon...Patterned paper is from American Crafts...a lot of fussy cutting before adhering to the acrylic ..some distressed stickles in rock candy for sparkle...Pink tulle and pearls around the edges...Felt on Maya Road chipboard bird...stickles on American Crafts foam alphas...handmade felt flowers (and some ready-made ones from American Crafts).

I was inspired by the challenge at Scrap-It-Lah to alter something. It looks deceptively simple but took a really long time to complete...if you've worked with acrylic, you understand the pain...the need to be ultra careful because glue smudges stick out like a sore thumb...*LOL*

Beautiful day

Beautiful day

I hope you are having a beautiful day! :) Today I'm showing you this beautiful day signage that I shared on the Gauche Alchemy blog last month.

The base is this really cool plastic from the Wholey Sheet Mixed Media Kit. I love that it adds interest and that bit of texture. A lot of fussy cutting with the Delovely line by Cosmo Cricket which I then assembled with a little 3D dots for dimension and embellished with bits from the various Mixed Media Color Kits.

Some felt flowers and buttons! :) That strip along the green ribbon is washi tape. Some glittered chipboard letters.
Beautiful day closeup

A pretty alternative to a card perhaps?

P/s: I loved seeing all your projects using those felt flowers! Any suggestions on future tutorials?

Laughter is music to the soul

Laughter is music to the soul

Laughter is music to the soul...so laugh away! :)

I made this card last night using the sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You and taking inspiration from the Card Style Shabby Chic and Vintage Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

I misted the base white cardstock with Maya Mist and inked the edges with distress ink I tore an edge of a piece of scrap paper and used a MS edge punch at the other end....then added a piece of washi tape right down the middle. A crochet doiley for a nice texture, some paper roses and rolled-up crepe paper with a vintage button. Heidi Grace pin. Fancy Pants sentiment (I think!).

The three boys - a little signage

The three boys signage

I'm doing up the family room so that it'd be a fun place for my nephews to play in when they come over. First up is this cute little signage I made of the three boys. It was inspired by the latest challenge over at the Gauche Alchemy blog... "Free as a bird". Do play along if you have a chance! There's a $10 gift certificate up for grabs!:)

I started with white chipboard which I misted. The chipboard birds are from Maya Road (thanks K!) All papers are from Bo Bunny and embellishments from Gauche Alchemy. Really love their mixed media color kits! :) Some stickles, handmade felt flowers, SRM stickers, American Crafts thickers..:)

Here's a closeup of the first panel...featuring my oldest nephew..

The three boys signage panel1

Here's a look at the second panel featuring nephew # 2...

The three boys signage panel2

And the third panel...

The three boys signage panel3

The boys loved it of course...it's bright, colourful and sparkly with birds, butterflies and their photos..*LOL*  (Did I mention how discerning they are? EVERYTHING I make is beautiful to them! ;)

P/s: Still accepting entries for my guest blogger Amy's challenge over HERE.

Memories on a 4 x 4 canvas...a little tutorial

Memories

I take a lot of photos on my cellphone. Not the greatest quality but definitely a way to capture those memories as they happen, right? Today, I'm showing you how I created this 4 x 4 canvas featuring my loving parents using a photo taken with a cellphone! :) The grainy quality of the photo is less apparent when it's small! *LOL*

I love to put my fondest memories on display and sometimes it's really hard to find wall space or table space to really showcase them. That's why I love these 4 x 4 canvas blocks. They take up very little wall space, challenge you to create within a really small space and go a long way to create visual interest in your room! :) I put them up on the wall using 3M velcros...(I hate putting nails in the wall...if I change my mind, I have to patch it up and then paint over it!)

Memories 1

I started by painting my canvas red. Since it's such a small piece of artwork, I really wanted it to stand out! :)

Memories 2

My credit card size photo was cropped to fit this cool frame from the Black Out Mixed Media Color Kit.

Memories 3

I used a crochet doiley as a base...love the added texture.
Memories 4

I added the photo, cool zipper ribbon from the Black Out Mixed Media Color Kit and a handmade fabric flower.

Memories flower 1

You need a strip of fabric, needle and thread to make the flower.

Memories flower 2

Fold the strip of fabric and start to twist it to form the flower. Secure it by stitching as you twist.

Memories flower 3

Here is the completed fabric flower! I love the frayed floral look..

Memories

I added more embellishments from the Wedding Night Mixed Media Color Kit. The red heart pin is from Heidi Grace. I added the gray heart from the kit to the pin. I also added some pearls for a little more texture.

What do you think?

[This project was shared on the Gauche Alchemy blog last week and edited for this blog post.]

The day we (almost) went to the zoo

The day we almost went to the zoo

Oh yes, it was the day we (almost) went to the zoo. We made it to the entrance of the zoo...it was crowded and we couldn't get in with our free passes. :( But I already paid $3.99 for parking so I got my nephews to pose with the faux animals outside the zoo. No worries though, the boys go to the zoo very often. So we went home and drew animals instead! *LOL*

I had fun fussy cutting the Bo Bunny papers and using the sketch from Sketchy Thursdays. MS edge punch, some fun animal stickers, stickles, brads, 7 Gypsies tab, Heidi Swapp chipboard letters (coloured with Sharpies).

P/s: A few more days to get your cards in for my guest blogger Amy's challenge!

*Edited*  This layout was a Sketchy Thursdays fave! :)
